Hello folks,
So i have a new to me Triton with a Yanmar 2gm20f. The boat has a wheel and on the pedestal the stop cable for the engine is installed. The cable/nob is very hard/ almost impossible to move. A buddy of mine at with a boat at the yard and i were trying to solve the problem. It seems like the cable is a foot or two too long and this extra length is causing it to have curves causing resistance. From what he said and from what i have found with a little research is that this is a very common problem with the yanmar stop cables. He suggested looking for an other manufacturer of such a cable. I was wondering if any one can recommend an alternative and/or suggest a fix for my issue.

Ben,
I'm not the one to answer you, but I did want to say congratulations on your new-to-you Triton!

I just replaced my cable. I ordered it from Torresen Marine for $30 and they come in different lengths. You could cut your old one down by carefully cutting the outer cable then replacing the ajuster.

Ben,
I have a generic "T" handle on my 3GM, as described above
The cable sheathing will have to be fixed on the engine side. Mine is held in place by a small fuel hose clamp, which doesn't look very elegant, but works.

at the human end, I whacked an inch and a half off an old broomhandle,
bored a thwarthship hole, threaded the brake cable thru--been working
good ever since. Easier to grab than the came-with handle.
