New Triton owner
Hi. new to the forum I just bought triton #227 Lively Lady on ebay. The boat is in good shape but the atomic 4 is shot. I was thinking about an outboard and was wondering how well they work on this boat. This is a great forum with a ton of imformation.

Welcome 227
227 - Welcome to the fleet. Good job on your purchase of a Triton. These are wonderful boats and with some TLC Tritons just keep giving and giving. As far as outboards on Tritons are concerned - yes this has been done with varying degrees of success but this arrangment will never offer the characteristics or convenience that a proper inboard propultion power source can. Another recent Triton owner, Zach, has recently removed his Atomic Four and has listed it here on the PC Forum classifieds. You might consider purchasing Zach's Atomic Four and rebuilding it (as needed) or contact Don Moyer of Moyer Marine www.moyermarine.com to see what he can do for you in the way of either swaping your existing engine for a core or just purchasing another Atomic Four. There are several other viable inboard options to consider as well, such as a diesel engine which is a very popular upgrade. Both Yanmar and Beta Marine have several diesels that have been succesfully installed in the Triton.

In all honesty I dont think the outboard suits the triton very well at all, I sailed for 1 year with a 15 hp 2 stroke mariner outboard, long shaft, with the garelick adustable braket.
in 4 foot seas on the great lakes i managed to severely bend that braket, I can honestly say Its not a configureation I recomend.
I rebuilt the westerbeke diesel that was in my boat and havent looked back. The triton is really to big a boat to push through waves with an outboard.
