Need a Rigger; Boston to Portland

Post by hriehl1 »

I had my boat surveyed and was pleased with the assessment and advice I received for most components and systems. But the review of the standing rigging was cursory. With a 45 year old boat with unknown history, I am keen to have the standing rigging more-thoroughly assessed.

Can anybody recommend a competent rigger between Boston and Portland (Newburyport is closest) who would make a house call to the Merrimac Valley to assess both the stays and shrouds as well as the chainplates, tangs, etc.? There are no meathooks, I'm most concerned with swage failure.

To save money, am I running a serious risk by taking the shrouds and stays to the rigger (to assess the swages) while trusting my own amateur (but studied) inspection of the spar-side elements (like tangs, which under magnifying glass appear intact to me), and the 2 (of 6) chainplates I removed were also untarnished and undeformed.

Thoughts or advice? I gotta get this thing into the water.

Thanks... Hank
