INTERIOR HARDWARE SOURCES?

Post by John Stone »

Hello Everyone,
I am getting to the point in the rebuild of the Far Reach that I need to start thinking about interior hardware . . . options for interior hinges, latches, knobs, drawer pulls and mechanisms, and other such hardware. With ABI defunct I am wondering what sources other sailors/builders have found to meet their needs. Anything out there other than West Marine and Hamilton Marine folks have found interesting and useful?

Many thanks.

Lewis Marine has a lot of interior goodies, and fiddly bits that other catalogs lack. http://www.lewismarine.com/

I wouldn't buy anything with a perko brand name on it, unless it is a replacement globe for one of their old pieces... Almost all the hardware is chrome plated zinc, and looks horrible in very short order. The door latches also have a habit of breaking, requiring you to knock out the door to get out of where ever you are locked...

Southco makes some nice hardware. http://www.southco.com/default.aspx?iid=6

See if you can find a marine salvage/surplus place near you. A lot of production boat building companies buy lots of pieces, and have leftovers when they change model years and end up wholesaling the stuff.
I can't remember but if you are in Wilmington, NC like I'm thinking you are... The one near us is Island Marina Rusty Ron's Marine Surplus in Morehead City, NC. They have a lot of stuff from grady white, pursuit, and Hatteras that is top notch stuff, at about what you can get it for straight wholesale.

Hope that helps,

Zach

I haven't bought anything here, but their selection looks ok, and their prices seem (almost suspiciously) low.
It might be worth buying a few non-critical pieces to evaluate their quality?

I have purchased here and found the quality satisfactory. Saved bags of money. Phil

Been working hard on the boat for the last few days and haven't had a chance to say thanks. All good sources. I'll spend some time checking out each of the sites.

Thanks again.
