Trotter Box?
Does anyone know the origin of the term "Trotter Box" for a cubby hole to place one's feet in a shortened bunk?

I learned the term from Rachel. But you can google and find many references to the term, mostly on websites in the UK.

Yes, the term appears to be widely used. I just can't figure out where it comes from. The closest I get for "trotter" is 16th c. English to describe the foot of a quadraped or just a cooked pig's foot.
