Bronze Chainplates

Post by Drew »

I have condemned my chainplates.

I will be replacing them with bronze. My question is which alloy. Mcmaster-Carr has C954 in the appropriate size, 1.25" x .25" x 18", but no other alloys. I am concerned that this being a cast alloy it may not be suitable. The yield strength, 35000 psi, is higher than 316L stainless so it should be strong enough. I am worried that it will not do well making the slight bend needed to allign with the shrouds since its ductility is less than half that of 316L. 18%EL in 50mm vs 40%EL in 50 mm.

What alloy have others used? Where did they source it? Maybe I should not worry and use the C954?

What do yall think?
