MD7A water flow question

Post by Challenger949L »

I started the engine of the Sabre 28 the other day. It ran great (I plan to sail the boat to VA. next weekend). The boat is on the hard so I ran a water hose to my intake line(This is a raw water cooled motor). When I turned on the water I heard a small trickle enter the waterlift muffler. I started the engine but very little water came out of the exhaust and the temp guage stayed cold. after about 10 min of this the temp guage climbed a little and water started flowing normally from the exhaust. I am assuming the the water really started to flow when the thermostat opened up. I this the normal flow of things or should I be getting more water out of the exhaust when the engine starts?

Normaly, your MD7A should have about the same amount of water coming out either cold or hot. The thermostat only re-route the water inside the engine bloc with no real effect on the flow. I did a complete rebuild on my MD7A last winter so I'm starting to understand the beast...

Did you check your impeller?

What happenned the second time you started it (cold) ?
