PB Blaster/5200

Post by windrose »

Tip of the day:

BTW discovered by accident that PB Blaster will remove 5200 like a breeze. Works way better than any product I have purchased for said purpose.

PB Blaster also does a great job removing oil / grease/ belt dust / rust stains from fiberglass.

That's great news, that will make removing caulk a breeze! However... I have heard PB Blaster is also great at removing other things you don't want to remove. Things like oil seals for example.

I recall a post by Mainesail saying he sprayed some PB Blaster on the propshaft to make it move. Overspray ended up dissolving his transmission seals, spilling all of the oil in the bilge. He had to buy new seals and refill the transmission with new oil.

He might have more to say about this. Its possible my memory is wrong and it was something else, though.

I spent 3 hours last night slowly chiseling away some 5200 left by my hawse pipes after removal from my taffrail. During those whole 3 hours my PB Blaster was within arms reach! I'm gonna try it tonight and hopefully post some progress pictures.

Thanks for the tip, I've got a lot more 5200 to deal with.

PBB also eats engine seals for breakfast... DO NOT spray it near tranny seals or other engine seals...

It can stain many materials and finishes as well.

Didn't take any pics but it does defiantly soften up the 5200. But as stated above keep it only where you want it!
