bilge pump plumbing
I am finally getting to the point of planning the rebuilding of systems in my boat. Most of the glass work and bulkhead repairs are done. I am trying to figure out how to plumb my three bilge pumps for the most optimum performance and the least amount of holes. When purchased the boat had only one bilge pump plumb with a thru-hull. This was a Edson manual pump with a 1 1/2 inch discharge plumbed at a level that exited at the water line. Not my optimim choice but I would rather not add more holes if possible. My plans are to keep the manual pump, add a small 12 volt discharge pump to keep things dry, and have a large capacity 12 volt pump for emergencies. The small pump has a 3/4 discharge, I have not purchased the large one yet but I am looking at ones that have a 1 1/2 discharge. Can I plumb all of them through one thru-hull after making a vented loop for each. Or should I bite the bullet, close up the existing hole and make new ones at levels that will not be under water when under sail?

David, I hunted down KAHOLEE's bilge pump installation details for you which you might find interesting. You will need to hunt around on each page but here are the links in order top down.
