I have a standard horizon depth sounder with a - - display...
I presumed the system had a fault and bought my neighbours spare (he says it works) slightly newer Std Horizon with its own transducer.
neither appear to work !
I have put my multi-meter on both transducers and neither show continuity.
Question : how can I test a transducer ?
question 2 : can I mount it internally ??
You guys have given me good advice previously :<)

Well, take the free advise for what it is worth but I have been told I can take a transducer normally designed to be installed through the hull and install it internally. The trick is to take a couple of wax donuts, used to seal toilets, crush them into a ball, stick the ball where you want the transducer to be and then jam the transducer down into the mess.question 2 : can I mount it internally ??
Now, I am told that this method has been used for several seasons and everything is "A-okay". Like I said, take it for what it is worth :-)
You are testing these units in the water right? I think operating them in free air is a sure way to burn them out. Again, just heresay.
