Looks like I got the wrong terminals on the batteries. The Blue Sea fuse holder has a 3/8 hole and it looks like a 1/4 inch stud on the batteries. Should I crank it down with a flat then a lock washer and not worry about it, or try to return the batteries and get the right terminals? Or are there other options I am not aware of?
Many batteries have 5/16" for negative and 3/8" for positive. But many boats are using the wrong size eyes in the lugs anyway so it is a good idea to check.
I just noticed you are holding it over the negative post. I would fuse the positive.
Thanks for the replies. I'll have to double check the different sizing on the terminals, but yes I am fusing the positive side. I was just holding it over the negative post for photographing purposes. But its the same issue on the positive post since that's where I first noticed it. I am using the T125's (an extra 15AH for $10 more for each battery) so maybe they are different thatn the T105's. This might be my solution...
Shoot. Looks like I am back to the original question. The adaptor does not fit. Both studs are 1/4 inch. I'm thinking I will just crank it down with a lock washer and check it regularly.
Doug,
It is just a connectiion, put a nut on it and tighten them up. The more important issue with your batteries is if they are in a properly secure area and not able to move, ie locked down. The wires leading to your battery should also be tie and clamped in a proper manner. If you have these concerns covered then the issue of the terminal stud size is mute. The connection should be clean with good contact and if you achieve that then you are good to go. (my opinion)

I can see I am getting hung up on minor details! I'll crank them down and not worry about it. Jollyboat, I will definitely have the batteries locked down tight as well as the cables leading up to them. Thanks. On to other things now.
Doug, assuming that you cannot change the ends of the fuse holder to the correct size, then:
1. Use a fender a washer of the correct ID.
2. Or use a bushing to prevent the pplay at the battery terminal
3. Use hex nuts. Wing nuts are no longer approved for marine use. I work at West Marine. All of the batteries now come with hex nuts only.
I was thinking about a fender washer too. So I will go ahead and use a fender washer of correct size, lock washer and hex nut, and remember to check it every couple months. Thanks!
