Transducer?

Post by george »

I have taken several pics of "mysteries" aboard my boat, an Alberg 30, 1970 model. I am hoping folks who actually know a thing or two about sailboats can help me figure out a course of action.

I think this is a transducer. I am scared of removing this thru-hull and replacing it with another, and hope to find a depth sounder that will work with this one.

Is that possible?

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Thanks!

It looks like the transducer has been removed from the thru-hull and the "blank plug" is in its place.

Yeah, you can buy transducers to work with just about any instrument system, and sleeves to mate the transducers to different preexisting thru-hull diameters.

I've heard good things about AirMar Transducers. They ain't giving them away, but this seems like an application of "you get what you pay for" philosophy.

I must say, though, that the location of that particular fitting lends itself better to use as a pure speedo transducer than as a depthsounder or multifunction because it's just SO far from horizontal.

Looks like my transducer through hull on my boat. DATA MARINE is the brand.
