Bonding New Plywood cabin sole

Post by TBeyer »

I am wondering what the best method to bond a new plywood floor down would be. The old coring and top layer of nonskid was removed and replaced with plywood and fiberglass. I have cut, fit and top finished a 1/4 thick veneer ply wood to go over the repaired area and am wondering if I should use 3M 5200 or 4200 or epoxy the wood down? Any thoughts?
Thanks Ted

Either 5200 or epoxy will work, and both are permanent. It may be a bit easier to get a consistent and more easily compressible layer of epoxy than 5200, as 5200 tends to resist compression over a wide area like a cabin sole.

Plus, 5200 has a very long cure time--several days. This also translates to longer open working time.

I'd probably use epoxy, all things considered.

Epoxy Strength - Questionable

Just make sure you coat and seal the entire underside with epoxy before you put it down. Then any areas you miss with paint will still be sealed.
