Dyneema Lifelines Installed

Post by Squidd »

The coated steel lifelines I had were cracked every inch or so with sections of covering missing where it passed thru the stancions and "frays" of wire poking out along the length...

I read about the Dyneema Line being approved for use on racing boats so I thought I'd give it a try...(not to mention it's relatively inexpensive)...

On the Bow Pulpit I made a Brummel Splice and luggage tagged it to the loop...

Image

Strung it thru the stancions and put on a layer of "tubular webbing" chafe guard and secured loose ends with a piece of shrink tubing...Keeps the webbing from unraveling and helps it slip thru the stancion when I un clip the line...

Image

On the stern pulpit I used a pelican clip, ordered in an SS eyebolt of correct thread... I double whipped the loop of the eye with Dacron to cushion bend and attached with a regular push splice cross sewing to keep it from pulling out...

Image

Pulled tight when I marked the loops and still have a few inchs of threads to adjust tension on Pelican Hooks...

Looks Better, no "pokies" and matching color...Whole project under $100..

Very nice!

I really need to do this. My lines are of unknown vintage.

Can you get in color other than lightblue?

Who did you use for supplies?

Thanks!

The Dyneema line is available in most any color and size if you look around..

3/16"-1/4" and 5/16" are all appropriate. Any of those sizes will be stronger than your stanchions can hold...

I shop around for most of my stuff on e-bay.

The left handed, fine thread, SS, "I" bolts were a little harder to find...Specialty SS shop called "Unicorn Metals"
