Tartan 34C Deck Paint

With the window of weather opportunity closing fast on me, I was able to finish painting the decks this month on Aeolus. I had hoped to have the topsides also painted this fall, and though they are primed, it is just too cold at night here to proceed. So, I guess they will have to wait until spring.







There are definitely some mistakes with this paint job, but none too horrific that I can’t live with. All in all, I’m pleased with the results.

That looks fantastic! I like the little "islands" for the stanchion bases and etc.

I suppose there are some mistakes but I sure don't see them.

I maybe missed this before, but is that two-part rolled and tipped? What type?

Thanks for the kind words. There are a few small runs here and there and some areas were more thinner would have allowed the paint flow better. The paint is Interlux Perfection, rolled and tipped, for both the white and the cream non-skid (rolled only). I mixed the suggested amount of flattening agent and Intergrip for dead flat non-skid and still ended up with a very slight amount of gloss (probably like an eggshell latex finish). The texture of the non-skid though is very nice.

I’d love to launch in the spring, but I’ve never met my intended schedule yet. So, I hesitate to speculate.

Don't fret over the gloss on the nonskid. In my experience, the interlux "flattening agent" significantly diminishes the paint's UV resistance. It'll chalk itself down to a matte finish soon enough.

Thanks Figment. I considered a fourth coat, but in the end decided that it wasn't worth the effort. I hadn't even considered that.
