A beautiful sight yesterday as the rains let up.

Post by Tom Young »

The last low rays of the setting sun lit a rainbow to the east over Penobscot Bay at dusk to cast a soft light on the landing. After 2 years of a total rebuild in the sheds of Rockport Marine, this project emerged just as the rains ended.

That's a heck of a boat.

If you don't know the details (I didn't) :

She is incredible in pictures, I can't imagine what she looks like in person.

Yeah, it sure is good to hear when a real historic classic is given the attention she deserves. Olin Stephens sure had his share of them. This makes me wonder what has become of Good News . I had the good fortune to spend the winter of 76-77 working as crew on her in the Caribbean doing charters out of Antigua. Yet I can not find anything on her at present. She also was designed by Olin Stevens and built by Nevins. Does anyone have any leads or knowledge of her where-abouts?

Tom knows that we saw her in the shed after the end of a workday back in February. She is vast and just disappeared into the gloom. Utterly gorgeous!

There's just no cure for ugly, is there?

(sour grapes? nah, of course not!)

The pictures on that site are absolutely breathtaking. It may be time for a road trip. Do they entertain visitors?

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Today, she sits on the landing waiting for a high noon tide to launch. Image

With a large crowd to attend the launching and a warm sun overhead, BOLERO went back in the water yesterday. Image

She's a beauty. Image

I hope to be prosperous in my next life. If I can bring her along, I'll have Favona restored to the same level.

I guess when they say you can't take it with you they mean boats as well as money.

Oh well. Prosperous w/out an old boat. What will I do with all my money?

Oh my God!
(referring to the God(s) that financed a project such as this.
May well be related to the deities that have built the replica of the schooner Atlantic.

Bolero absolutely looks stunning with her new makeover. But I just love the photos of old. Especially the guy walking along the boom.

The Rosenfield Collection can be researched on line by anyone as can a couple other methods at Mystic Seaport Research. Prints can be ordered as well, though very pricy.

On another but related note: The Wooden Boat Show is coming to the Seaport in a couple weeks.

Great. Now I need to go find a nice hollow miter-cut 130.
