My First Triton

Hello. my Triton #53 is my first boat, and I'm older than she is. I have been reading the posts here for a couple of days and have learned a lot about these boats. This year I plan to paint the hull and then spend the rest of my limited funds (yes, I know the the words "limited funds" and "boat" do not belong any place near each other) on things involving boating safty. The "pretty" stuff will just have to wait.

Hi Pete,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new boat. We're looking forward to your work on #53 and, as a warning, fully expect lots of photos.

The Triton is a great boat and well worth the time and energy you're about to spend. Congrats again.

I just found that "Figment" had posted a discription and photos of #53 in the classifieds section of this forum under the heading Project Triton.

Hi Pete, and welcome.

Glad to hear that #53 has a good new home. I spoke with the PO, who was sounding desperate, just before you apparently came on the scene, so I'm happy to hear that this worked out for everyone.

It's also good to know the hull number of that boat, since there was a bit of guesswork going on in that other thread.

Good luck with the projects. We hope for frequent, and photo-filled updates! :<)

I'm delighted to hear that she's found a new steward. Hull #53? I was way off! She represents pretty well for her age.

Any thoughts on the new name yet, or do you plan to get to know her a little better first?

Hi Figment, all the paperwork said that she is a 1961 but I think she may be a '60. #53 is stamped the the wood over the doorway to the v-birth, and on the main sail which has the triton logo on it too.

I plan on having a de-nameing and re-nameing party when she get in the water in May of 08.

Right now the name in my mind is "ALLI-ANN" named for my two daughters Rae-Ann and Allison.

Hi Pete,
Welcome aboard! I am thrilled to learn that you picked up #53. If you have not already, don't forget to register #53 with on the NETA site as it is nice to know where we all are. I will be glad to help in any way I can if you have any specific questions about your sails, otherwise I am sure you will find answers to almost any Triton questions you may have here on the forum. From bow to stern I am sure if nothing else, it has been considered at least once.

I think you are right about the build date. As far as I know, Triton's from about #50 through roughly #200 were built in 1960. I take most of what I read about Tritons with a grain of salt but this general guideline has been pretty accurate so far.

As for waiting for the pretty stuff, paint is a pretty major improvement. The woodwork often comes back surprisingly well so don't give up on it too soon either. A few signs of wear are perfectly acceptable in an old boat after all.

Hey Pete,

It went through. The information has to be put into the database manually and I think the NETA secretary has been a little slow about it lately. It usually happens within a week though :-)

Welcome to the club. My Triton is #158 and she is (reportedly anyway) a 1960 so in all likelihood, your boat is too.

Thanks for the reply. I have been thinking that #53 made have been made in 1960 but sat on some dealers lot until 1961 so it may have sold as a 61
