Wooden toerail

Post by bcooke »

I just thought of this little discrepency.

I have always read that the late model Tritons had a mahogany toe rail added presumably to dress up the boat a bit and keep up with the competition.

After ripping mine apart it became pretty obvious, under all the grey and weathered, that my toerail was teak. Either it was special ordered (also quite common I hear) or the story about using mahogany is off a bit.

What have other late model owners found?

Work is overrated.

Most everything you read on the Internet is wrong.

I'm pretty sure that mine was also teak, though it was in such bad condition it could have been almost anything. It definitely didn't seem like mahogany, though.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules for what type of exterior wood you'll find on any Triton, but even if your other exterior wood was mahogany, it would be typical to find teak at the toerail anyway. I agree that Nathan's also seemed like teak.

toe rails

Post by BrokeCurmudgeon »

I have a Renegade and the toe rail is teak. After a little work it looked good despite 40 years of weathering.
