TRITON Model

I spotted a listing on eBay for a guy selling molded fiberglass hulls and decks to build a 1/9 scale model of the TRITON. Not cheap, at around $160.00 for a hull, rudder and deck set, but pretty interesting! He has pictures of one that he finished off, it looks a little off on the proportions, but other than the rudder being a bit thick, the moldings look good. He is located in Michigan, shipping will add about $30

Given the age of many Triton owners this might be a good next project boat.

Though more expensive than many other Tritons on the market...

@ his 1:9 scale, it's 37" LOA.

At 1:4 or so, it would almost be usable as a dinghy, like the Mini 12's. How cool would that be?

Well, not cheap but the moulding and fiber/gelcoat work looks really good.

Being a boat modeler myself, what I would be concerned is that a true scale boat hardly sails well given that sail area scales by 9^2 (in this 1:9 scale case) and weight by 9^3 or even more, but the wind stays the same.

Usually we employ certain "tricks" to give the boat better handling while maintaining the scale looks. Things such as increasing the beam and draft a bit, a bit bigger rudder... some guys even attach removable keels so that the boat handles well on the water and looks scale when "on the hard"

I would really like to see one of those 1:9th Tritons being bult and sailing
