HMS Bounty, built NS Canada, lost power and sank off Massachusets (?) in huge storm "Sandy" in October, 2012 while attempting to sail south away from the storm path.

All aboard were safely rescued by USC with the exception of the Captain who was lost, - God rest his soul.

This tall ship replica of the famous original HMS Bounty that was commanded by Captain Bligh, featured in many movies, the most notorious being "Mutiny on the Bounty" a true to life occurrence that took place eons ago.

The replica was a beautiful ship and will be sorely missed at Tall Ships gatherings.

The HMS Bounty went down approximately 140 miles SE of Cape Hatteras, NC. Fourteen crew members were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. One female crew member was recovered and subsequently has passed and the skipper is still missing.

Thanks for the update Dick; - I'm on the other side of the country and don't always get the facts straight about happenings on your side. How did you do in the big blow? I trust you were well battened down in a hurricane hole maybe?

Where is everyone these days? The forum is kind of dead don't you think? Is there some reason for this?

Here in Solomons, MD we dodged a bullet as far as Sandy is concerned. We had 60 kt. winds and 3 ft. chop in the harbor and the tidal surge was only about 3 feet.. I had Early Light on the hard and prepared for winter storage. We were lucky!

It has been pretty quiet here on the forum lately. I'm not sure why. Mayber it will pick up now that the sailing season is almost over in many areas.

The Bounty came through the lakes to Duluth two summers ago along with half a dozen other tall ships. What a magnificent vessel. How sad the loss and so tragic the loss of lives.
