My diesel runs like a top!

Post by Tim Mertinooke »

I just wanted to share my excitement about getting my diesel engine started after commissioning today. It sat idle for two years so I was nervous. I had changed out all the filters, impellers, oil, etc, and replaced the fuel. After a quick bleed of the fuel lines she started right up. I am one step closer to plopping that thing in the water in a couple months. Yippee!

Tim,

I followed your diesel video to your youtube favorites. Wow, I quite like Kate Rusby. Somehow I have never heard her music. Thanks, Bill

Perkins diesel video

Post by David VanDenburgh »

Not long ago there was a discussion about engine room insulation, although I can't seem to find it offhand. I think Britton was in on the discussion.

Anyway, here's a link to a short video of Ariel's engine compartment and firing up the diesel this spring. I thought some might be interested in hearing what the sound dampening material is capable of. The camera seems to amplify the noise level a bit; it seems much quieter in person. All the same, it's a significant difference.
