Bulk mahogany?

Hi guys... Putting out a feeler for lumber yards that deal with mahogany. I'm at the cross roads with Noel that I'm needing to pick up 3-400 board feet of the stuff to do all the interior trim... Looking for yards on the east coast that will work with you on pricing.

Best I have found so far is 4.10 for Sapele in 4/4 4-8 inch boards...

What kind of mahogany?

Sapele is not mahogany, although it looks a lot like some species. You might very well find it attractive for household trim. It is quite reasonable to work with. If you are seriously considering similar woods, then check out Cambara and Meranti as well.

The border on this bar is done in Meranti. It is sold as deck planking and railing stock. But if you can hand pick your stock, or don't mind a little waste, you can find some really nice material.

ZACH, you may know of Yukon Lumber Co. up in Norfolk Va. I have bought mahogany from them before and they were very nice. I do know that the yard is usually full of exotic woods. I had a H-28 and broke a boom and bought Sitka spruce from them to laminate a new one. They have a website, just google Yukon Lumber its been awhile since i've been to their site. TOM

Thanks for the ideas guys.

I snagged a few pieces today and planed them to see whats what.
Grabbed a few boards of honduras mahogany, afrimosa, kahaya, sapele, and cherry today.

Sapele turned out to be the nicest grained of them... smells more like mahogany than the honduras for some reason.

I'll keep on doing pricing and see what turns up, still have to apply some finish to the samples and see what looks the best of the bunch. Afrimosa is a spitting image of teak, but at 10.80 a board foot its a little spendy!
