LED lighting source

Talk about favorite or hated suppliers, recommend good materials or sources, or anything of the same ilk. This is also a good place to suggest unique ideas and innovations you may have come up with.

LED lighting source

Post by Peter »

Reading my second favorite magazine, BoatWorks, (second to Good Old Boat) there was an interesting article on LED lighting that mentioned a source of LED's. I thought I'd pass it on:

I ordered a few to try on the San Juan's interior lighting, as presently I have 3 power guzzling 20 Watt halogens.

As a long time user of LEDs for non-marine uses, I can attest to their long life and low power consumption. They are great!

They are starting to do some real innovative things with them on boats, see http://www.navagear.com/2005/02/boatshow_more_o.html

One thing to keep in mind is that if your application does not require compliance with strict standards (navigation lights for example). Then low cost "surplus" LEDs may be just fine for you.
