We're trying to round up the early Alden fiberglass boats.

Post by Tom Young »

Designed and built in the late 50's and early 60's this group of around 100 boats were the following designs (from largest # built); Alden Challengers, Alden Carravelles, Alden Zephyrs, Alden Mistrals(and maybe others?)

Many (but not all) of these Aldens will be identified by the large "double D" ports like this Challenger.

Almost all of these hulls(and many if not all decks) were moulded at the Hallmatic yard in the UK. The hulls and decks were then shipped off to various yards around the world to be finished.

With the 50th anniversary of this unique group of boats approaching, we're trying to compile where they are, who owns them and how they are holding up. They mark an interesting era in boat design and building and also give some insight into the life of fiberglass as a hull material.

If you know of any of these boats, let me know here on Tims website or send them to the Challenger website posted. Thanks!
