chinook 34

Post by The Good Goose »

Saw an ad for a Chinook 34 on Boattraderonline.com and did some research. Apparently they and not the Triton were the first fiberglass production boat. They had several out of their mold before the first triton. Beautiful boats, long overhangs, wooden cabin, true classic wooden boat lines. Be a great project for someone not married to my very sensible wife. Five grand for the boat it's in Montauk.

Nice looking boat, or at least she has the potential to be!

This one sure looks like a lot of work for $5000!

From what I understand, there were a few fiberglass production boats earlier than the Triton, but the Triton was the first one (?) that really took off in a big way, and had hundreds produced.

We had a more extensive Chinook thread a while back, which can be found here, if anyone is interested:

Thanks for the link. Here is a web site with a beautifully restored Chinook.

Tim thanks for all the help posting the pictures links and web sites referred to in my posts. I seem unable to fathom how to do this. I finally got a link to come up so maybe I'm learning. Still haven't figured out a picture though.

I completely forgot about that thread! Funny how these things come around.

Good thing Rachel's here to use her elephant-like memory to pull up this old info!

That was my impression too. In fact, I always have thought that the Rhodes Bounty II was the "first" all-fiberglass production sailboat, even though her actual production numbers were relatively few.

One could further argue whether a boat like the Chinook, with her wooden house (and deck?), is truly a fiberglass production boat like some of the others that might have come later. But that's just semantics.
