Speaking of LeComptes...

This boat, Avatar, a LeCompte 52, used to sail and race on the coast of Maine.

She started out as a rather plain white-hulled sloop. Then one year, her owner seemed to win the lottery and the boat returned as a yawl, and with a beautiful dark hull. The transformation was stunning. She was a beautiful boat.

I found these pictures of her on the LeCompte website referenced in another thread here.

I first remember the boat looking more or less like this:

Then afterwards, she looked like this. Quite a difference! I don't care how useless yawl rigs might be...it's just all about looks. Yawls look better than any other rig except a properly-proportioned schooner.

Wow.

That mizzen is HUGE compared to many yawls...

I like the first photo though, with the sports coat and the castle! hehe
