Ocean passages are what I'm thinking... but that is a few years off.
That pram is beautiful, may have to build one just because!
After switching to an outboard I'm not certain how to dock while towing a dinghy. Tow line and prop would be quite close together.
Thanks guys!

Triton Dinghys
Hi guys, In need of a dinghy for the Pylasteki, rented a 13 foot two man kayak for a week... side deck totally consumed and jib track is unusable. What do you guys use for dinghys? I'm thinking a hard dinghy sitting on the cabin top under the boom would be nice, but don't know where to start. Boat i...

I popped the cover off to see the guts of the transmission, as nothing was turning when solidly clunked into forward. (5 pound bronze lever) Just in case anyone wonders... starting up the motor with the cover off causes some oil spray! (Grin) I'll slide the motor forward and see if it'll gain some c...

Gelcoat cracks
Hi guys, My Triton has gelcoat cracks all over it, in places the gelcoat is an 1/8th inch thick! When repainting, how should I go about removing the old flakey stuff? Does it all need to come off? I'll take some pictures of some of the areas around bulkheads and under the undersides when I haul out....

Update: Internet went down at the marina. What I know... the propeller shaft does not spin when in gear. The coupling does not spin, and with the cover off I can spin the prop shaft by hand and the main shaft of the transmission does not spin. Bought an outboard bracket and mounted it yesterday, bor...

Update: Grabbed hold of the tiller and put some pressure on it, it moved the whole coupling forward. The tiller movement also moved the transmission housing a small amount side to side. Going to check engine mounting bolts... etc. Didn't adjust the clutch properly, doesnt clunk when going into forwa...

Man you guys are fast... The Diver hammered back on the prop, the prop shaft/prop is now jammed against the rudder. There is a 1/8th clean ring around the transmission side of the coupling, which makes me believe it slid out of the transmission... and not the shaft out of the coupling. It lacks a na...

Good info to know! Sure wouldn't like to get whacked by a hand crank... Boats broken down! Stuck in Coinjock, NC. Prop shaft is not turning, has slid back and jammed the rudder. Transmission shifts gears, and the gears inside spin. The whole assembly moves fore and aft when working the shift lever, ...

Absolutely! Hey... for the life of me I can't find the fill point for the water tank! I've gone nuts looking for it. Do any of you guys have a spare hand crank for the atomic four, or have a sketch of one? I had to set the dwell with a meter since my finally tuned starter button finger couldn't find...

Got some more questions... What is the bridge clearance on a triton? Its got a 33 foot stick by the plans I've got, but I'm not sure what it is from the water line to the top of the trunk. What kind of fuel mileage should I expect? Its 320 miles from Annapolis to Oriental by my rough calculations, a...

Pictures from the ad are here: http://picasaweb.google.com/evanjeffcoat/TheTriton Yeah the build sequence is funny... it came with a ships log that the first page listed the #234, under agreement with Clint Pearson to hold 101 until it was built. But 101 is stamped in the main beam, and on the insid...

Yup, Craigslist boat. It is number 101, but was the 234th Triton built. Delivered new April 1, 1961 as Vanity II. Sold in 1973, name change to Pylasteki... which I don't know how to pronounce! Its got a ton of paper work, including the blue prints/layout and original sail plan. (I'm going to see if ...

So... I bought it. Decks are a little soft, and the mast has sunk into the deck... but it sure sails well. How much up and down play should there be in the rudder? It doesnt have any side to side, but up and down is 3/4 to an inch of free play. The tiller is also a little sloppy... but a few shims o...

Sounds like its worth going up to take a look. Guessing it's worth the out of water survey (20 bucks a foot in this case... ouch) to see whats its got down below. I'm fairly confident that skills wise I can take on most anything with enough tries... and have a finished product thats decent... but it...

My goal with the boat was/is to turn it into something sea worthy for cruising. I don't have much money to do it (College student) but the triton seems like the right size, and design for rougher stuff. Rigging and ground tackle can be overkilled without spending a ton, etc. Havent decided if floati...

Well... Just got off the phone with the surveyor. Says that theres not a surface on it that would be acceptable to a normal human and the inside is one of the more filthy that he has seen... The deck is mushy, the sails are shot, mast is squishing down the deck... etc. I'm disappointed, figure a wis...

Question... Could one use the inner skin of the deck to build up enough thickness to make a solid deck out of one that used to be cored? Probably impracticle to the extreme, but it seems like doing that would alleviate all sorts of core related problems... (and probably introduce some new ones!) Tha...

Looking at buying a triton, questions.
Hi guys, Looking at one that I don't know the year of. The # plate is missing. Wondering if there is another location that Pearson put this. Will I need to have the # for when I get the boat documented? Or will the title info suffice? (I'm assuming that the triton is big enough to document based on ...

Go to the auto parts store and get a clay bar for automotive detailing. Use soapy water and rub it until it comes off. It works for light overspray, if you really laid it on gotta go for more destructive methods. A blue or white plastic scrubber sponge, again with soapy water. Work in straight lines...
