Great job - on the video, and even moreso on the boat. She's a beaut!

Re: Masthead fitting for a Triton?
Just an update I'm tardy in posting... Wound up doing what I could with the materials and sources extant. Made an 7-layer AL/5200 sandwich :), bonding precut 1/8" 6061 bar stock in between the two existing pieces of (very aging) masthead fitting (I find it hard to believe that what was there wa...

Pearson Ariel #422
Well, 4 years on, after trying ***EVERY POSSIBLE*** interior combination in search of the best :), I have started on the construction phase. I'm beginning this next-to-last construction in the v-berth. I say 'next to last' because how I am doing it, I will still have some wiggle room WRT customizati...

Re: Masthead fitting for a Triton?
Thanks Britton. Hadn't thought about the supply situation back then, so that makes perfect sense. :) BTW - Katie Marie 's deck gelcoat condition is much the same as Jenny 's was, so your thread on that topic has been educational and inspirational. The colors are the same, too, so I have your pics sa...

Re: Masthead fitting for a Triton?
Well, color me 'not surprised', I guess - once again it seems that the one thing our old Pearsons have in common is: inconsistency. :D I think maybe the fitting has been replaced once already. When I was looking it over yesterday, I noticed that it did not seem to be built even as stoutly as the one...

Masthead fitting for a Triton?
(Oops! My apologies, I should have put this in the "Pearson Triton Specifics" board - sorry, Tim! I exemplify the rank of "Lowly Deck Grunge Scrubber", apparently. ;) ) Hi all! Does anyone have a source for one of these? I am re-rigging a Triton (circa '65, East Coast boat, hull...

New website, for small boat cruisers
I've started a new website, aimed specifically at folks who use (or want to use) small boats, 30' and under, for long distance cruising. Like I explain there, I've not seen a website which addresses this particular topic. I've spent the last couple of years picking up odd bits and pieces about small...

Hmm - I don't think I could get the CrewDogs to go underwater. Unless tennis balls sank. :)
Coincidentally (or not??? ;)), my cousin sent me this link last night. More cat-based fun (Flash movie). You'll especially like this if you are/were a Harry Chapin fan :

To really threaten it, you need to broaden your knowledge base in order to scare it effectively with something, some action, some fate that it would truly regret. Like becoming a mooring. Look here:

I Googled it, couldn't find any photos or written descriptions of the stuff, did see a MSDS for one grade that stated its Specific Gravity was 1.8. What is it used for? I'm trying to think of a way to use 4x8' sheets of electrical insulation, but I'm not coming up with much. :) I saw that it is fire...

More relevant info of the anecdotal type: Katie Marie 's hull and cabin trunk are painted with something, I'm not sure what the product is. We don't have water hookups, so I drag the hose onboard from the dock and leave it alongside the cockpit (I'm a KISS man through and through :) ). The hose leak...

About the boat I mentioned in my marina - I am convinced that it is an A30. There is no area code for the brokers phone # that is on the boat, and the owner didn't list the boat type when he signed his lease with the marina, so those lines of inquiry didn't pan out. By looking around at pictures onl...

Weight: As far as I know, Sunbrella only comes in one weight. I've seen two types advertised, though - interior (uncoated/untreated) and exterior. Quality: Second quality fabric is not planned that way, it's called that because it usually has some minor blemishes (water/dirt/coating spots, maybe som...

Definitely use a polyester thread. Dabond does have UV inhibitors in it, and is good stuff. Sunbrella is an acrylic fabric, and I think that the thread always wears out first because the acrylic is much more UV resistant than even treated poly. I haven't tried the Gore product, IIRC it is pretty dar...

Jason - So glad that everything is mostly OK with her! Talked to my uncle who lived in Waveland tonight - they lost *everything* except what they've managed to scrounge since the storm from the pile that used to be their house. They are fortunate in that they've found a townhome up north a bit (othe...

There is a boat here in the marina, looks *a lot* like this one. I couldn't tell if it was Trition or not, thought it was just a similar boat which I don't recall the name of. I'll try and get some pics, see what y'all think, but... It has no eyebrow ports, and, IIRC, is a masthead rig. It's for sal...

Hi Tony - How about old battery lead? I know it has antimony in it, which isn't needed in this case, but I know that there are at least a dozen batteries just sitting around on the docks here at my marina, and you usually see several every month getting carted away. Just a thought, don't know if it'...

Hi Ric - I'm going to hazard a guess that you will be better off trying to just get a boat with what you have, unless you are real friendly with a banker. Don't know if repair is still an option, but... A good source for aluminum tubing is from stores which sell irrigation supplies. Also (I learned this when I did a stint in Indianapolis), if racing is big in your or a nearby community, check with shops which make or repair race car frames. I found so...

Here's a pic of an earlier incarnation of my setup. A suggestion: Try making it from other, cheaper material than what your finished product will be made with. Blue tarp material is cheap, relatively durable, and pretty ugly, but will work well for prototyping. WalMart has, in the camping section, an extra thick tarp of that same material, silver on ...
