Re: Help picking out a new pocket cruiser

I can only think of one other boat of this type that may/may not fit the bill (or slip) - all the same boat just about, different sizes, all are likely out of his budget range I think - but how about either a Falmouth or Bristol Channel Cutter, or maybe Nor-sea 27?

I have a Davis Mark 15 which seems to me to be plenty nice and gets lots of good reviews over the years, but is not their top of the line. They have really come down in price over the years - I guess GPS has contributed - only $150 or so now.... !!! I also have their plastic "practice" sex...

Re: Adding a solent stay

To hoist the storm jib I lash a short line around the furled job up near the sheets and then run them straight down to the bow cleats or anywhere out of the way. Double-checking: You do this so that A) you don't need to unbend them from the furled sail, and B) to keep them out of the way of the sto...

Waiting for this (hopefully last) cold spell to break to get back on the project, and the time has been good to ponder alternatives. I do much prefer the idea of a sealed sole. Keeping ocean/water out is always the better alternative. It's easier, and KISS. And keeps your head lower. :) Probably the...

Well, it helps that at 5'8" or so I'm not real tall. :) I put a bimini on for a test fit, and have found that when combined with the dodger, cockpit ingress/egress is a real pain due to the bimini frame. So I figured I need to make up a test bom gallows which would allow me to rig a cockpit sha...

James I was thinking of Yet Another Way to do it, and had an Idea. 1) Make the edges come up 3-4" on the sides and aft edge, creating a shallow 3-sided 'tub' of sorts, so that water would have to be that deep before it could even begin to stand long enough to try and get down through & past...

I saw one boat that ran their plotter thru a TV mounted on the main bulkhead. As it was like 27", it was very visible from the cockpit. While I don't plan to have a TV in my boat, I have been considering a Pi-based computer system and that would include a monitor, large enough to see from outsi...

Sometimes I look at what some manufacturers did and I go huh... A short thread of some work I've been doing the past couple weeks getting a Watkins 25 back up to snuff after some years of being neglected.
