My post is stainless but I think it may have been replaced when the rudder was rebuilt. The post itself is probably 3 inches proud of the cockpit sole.

Rudder tube on my boat rises about 1.5 inches above the deck and then is capped with a bronze collar that the tiller head rides on. The tiller head is the typical chrome bronze affair.
Hope that helps!

Find a friend involved in classic cars. Ask them who they use for plating. Use them.
The good platers are few and far between theses days.
You will never get it right at home.
Or let it just go bronze. That is my plan. Mine were re-plated about 10-15 years ago and are showing their age.

I'll think about the fuse thing. I left off the memory lead on the stereo intentionally, to save power. I won't have any power generation on the boat aside from the solar panel, and that's more of a keep-full type thing. To get enough panel-juice to really charge the battery would cost more than I ...

I helped made a few shrouds myself using an old hand crank swager when I worked at a large sailing school. Made several sets for oday 37's. Wasn't rocket science, but all I was doing was the mechanical process of cranking it through the dies. That seemed fairly idiot proof (well not completely idiot...

Good thread. On my alberg it flows from the locker to a small cabinet where the depth sounder is installed and out on to the floor!!! What were they thinking? Welcome to the group!
I sail out of the severn river on the mobjack. Great place to sail.
I'd do a sailing restoration and change tings as you find they don't work.
I had lots of ideas about my alberg and found that most of them really didn't matter to how I was using the boat!

Didn't say you could skip bedding....Just that it was a neat idea.
For those of us with chainplates sitting in gutters it seems a simple, practical solution to the everyday dew and rain that no doubt will eventually get past the best bedded fittings as they age.

Probably visible and in the middle of the v berth though I will bet!!
I did the bottom side of a deck in a small spot (about 4x 10) that was not in a visible location. Basically a recore from underneath.
