Conditon of Mast

I have been looking at my 48 year old mast and have the following concerns: There is corrosion on the mast under the location of the spreaders. It is pitted and I am not sure if it is a concern for strength. (I will post a picture of this, but need some info on how to do this on this site) There is ...

Nice looking work. What is the total height of the glass rail above the deck? As well, what did you go to the hull joint?

Hi Tim.....I got to get one of these for the cockpit of my triton. It looks stong and light enough to work. I have visisted the Bomar site, but have only found this model in plastic. Do you know the model of the hatches in the picture.

Thanks,

Water and Waste Fill Locations

I am replacing my Tritons water tank with a stainless one and adding a holding tank. The original water tank has the fill located on top of it. Is there any reason I should change this setup? Is there an advantage to have it on the deck? If I want to pump out the holding tank to a dump station, what...

Building a New Rudder

Hello....I am looking at rebuilding my Triton's rudder. It has worm holes in her and is missing a large piece in the lower section. I was thinking of making one out of plywood and epoxy then glassing it, but I'm not sure if this is the way I should go. I have some good Honduras Mahogany in the shop ...

Hi Jason, Thanks for the reply. The "Rustoleum rust-inhibitor primer" that you used - is that the brand name? Does the motor have to be clean of the of old paint before you use it or will it go over the old paint? I imagine as well that it is a high heat paint? Thanks, Stephen, Triton 185

Painting "Derk" the Diesel

Hello....I want to repaint my diesel before I install. I'm not sure what to do - to get good results. The motor has some flaking paint in places and is somewhat dirty. I am thinking about meticulously wire brushing (fine stainless) and then cleaning with solvent before repainting. All thoughts and t...

Triton Furler Advice

I?m looking for some advice on what size of furlers to use on my 28' Triton. This boat has a 40? bowsprit and will have two units. I have purchased a Schaefer 1100 (stem) and 2100 (sprit), but I am thinking about not using the 2100 as it may be too large and heavier than required. Would it be better...

Closed Chocks

I'm feeling a little shy about asking this one...but here goes. What's the deal with closed chocks? I have never used them, but is there a reason to prefer them over open ones and what are their pros and cons?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Ceasar, I had a few reads of the MIR pages on the tabernacle ? I had forgotten to check there. Robert, I have never used a hinged system to raise a mast before. Seems like it would be a bit precarious if praying were part to the system. Perhaps I will just remove the mast for...

Mast Tabernacle Design

I?m planning to make a mast tabernacle and really don?t know how to proceed. The mast is deck stepped (on a Triton) and I have two things I would like it to do. One is to raise the mast myself and the other is to be able to lower it while under way on canal systems. (I?m not sure if I am out of my m...

Stainless - Getting Tanked.

I have some partial sheets of 1/16" 304 stainless that I'm thinking about using to make a bow water tank. Either one larger tank with a baffle or two smaller independent tanks - that will be easier to install. Does any one know if this grade of stainless is suitable for this project? As well, i...

Good luck with your repair. Remember to prep all teak surfaces that are to be glued with acetone prior to gluing. This procedure applies to both new and old teak.

Hi Tim,

Do you recall what diameter of hole you drilled in your top skins? I was looking at your site and I didn't catch what size they are.

Recore From the Outside - Finish of Bleeder holes.

This question is to those of you that have re-cored from the outside and re-used the outside skins. Are the outside skin bleeder holes glassed over or just filled with epoxy. If they are only epoxy filled, is there an issue with cracking or telegraphing over time with heavy use? Thanks!

Material selection.

This post is, in my mind, completely esoteric......what I mean is - it is a question that is perhaps based on ones preference. I am going to replace my Tritons cleats and chocks, but I have been going in circles with whether they should be polished bronze, stainless, or chromed bronze. What do most ...

Attaching a Sea Hood

I am building a sea hood for a Titon. The thing is that I am not sure on the ideal method of attaching to the "hoodsea" to the cabin/house. Is it best to have it removable or should it be glassed into the the structure....hhmmm, what are the pros and cons? Thanks for all your thoughts. Ste...
