Personally... that looks like a patch job to my eyes... but if it is stiff enough to do what needs to be done and you don't mind staring at it, why not? If you are planning to fiberglass it later in the season... don't paint it without at least resin coating the wood first. The fiberglass won't stic...

The rope is a new one on me... Only time I've seen it was on a rolling dolly for a wharram tiki 21, wheels 3-4 layers of 3/4 plywood laminated together and wrapped in rope/epoxied.

Took some noodling when I was trying to come up with some figures for what certain jobs cost and the materials they require, when everything is measured differently by weight and a yard... isn't.

My theory... We as a people and human race use mat with epoxy because the biaxial glass with a mat backer is compatible with polyester resin. Depending on where you are, you may want some Cold Cure accelerator for that 545. Lets you sand the next day around lunch time when the temp is in the 55. Otherwise its a day or two before it stops gumming up the sandpaper.
