Fairing the hull for topside paint
Hey guys, So I have quite a few chipped paint marks that had to be sanded out. Those spots will need to be filled and faired. I also had to sand 4-6 inches off above the waterline where there was severe bubbling and some signs of osmosis. Some areas were sanded down to bare fiberglass. What techniqu...

Re: Toe Rail Removal/installation
After removing the toe rails and all of the sealant I think it may not be necessary to fiberglass over the hull/deck joint. Everything looks in tact, with a few small sections that could use some filling. The fastest way to remove the sealant was using a grinder with a 40 grit sanding disc. I smooth...

If I could install an inboard well on my boat, I would. Unfortunately due to the design of my transom hung rudder I’m limited to either an inboard diesel or offsetting an outboard bracket on the transom. Hi guys, I’m going to do my best to document the toe rail removal and installation of new toe rails. Hey guys, A friend of mine is having his boat painted in Grenada. The painter won’t sand the boat with anything but an air powered sander because it supposedly doesn’t leave as many marks. Got it, I’ll order some self tappers from McMaster-Carr. I did actually remove coring from all of the chain plate “cutouts” when I replaced the chain plates and filled them with 610 thickened epoxy. I think there should be enough thickened epoxy to drill and screw a self-tapper in.

CapnK ~ Ipe (at least what they’re advertising it as) is surprisingly easy to get here in the Caribbean, probably because most of it comes from nearby South America. @ Vanguard64 I don’t think anyone can tell you exactly how long those respective materials will last as longevity probably depends more on how often you use it, the environment it’s used in, the loads exerted on the vane, and how well you maintain it. Setting Scaffolding up for Hull Prep/paint
Hey guys,
I'm hauling my boat out soon and am going to paint the topsides with Awl grip. Does anyone have advice on setting up scaffolding around the boat for preparation work and painting? I have access to some old 2 x 4s from a local home builder which should be of help.
Thanks,
Logan
