Re: Looking for mast toggle replacements
After pulling the double back stay, delta plate, and toggle, it seems as though I didn’t measure one of the clevis pins properly. Both ends of the toggle took 1/2” diameter clevis pins (different lengths), unlike what I had mentioned in my previous reply. The new toggles I had ordered from rigrite d...

Re: Maintenance on New Stalock turnbuckles and fittings
I couldn’t find any dry lube locally so I put a thin coat of tefgel on the threads of each turnbuckle. I also wiped the toggles and turnbuckle bodies down with water. As far as the wire, it’s suppose to be 316 certified stainless imported from South Korea but I really don’t know, that’s just what th...

Maintenance on New Stalock turnbuckles and fittings
Hey guys, I just replaced most of the rigging on my allied Seawind 30 and am wondering what kind of maintenance I should be doing to keep the stainless in good condition. I wonder what kind of life expectancy these turnbuckleS have compared to the old solid bronze norsemans that we’re on the boat wh...

Re: Washed my Sails
I Didn’t realize it was that old when I posted. I wasn’t sure if it was a pretty common ingredient found in regular stores but I did find it on amazon. After doing more research I wound up using oxiclean. The mainsail came out pretty good.

Pressure treated plywood?
Hey guys, I’ve heard that using pressure treated wood on a boat is not recommended (also read this in a article by west system). Has anyone used pressure treated and had any issues?

Re: Washed my Sails
Wow look good, I’m thinking of trying this out. Where did you buy the sodium silicate?

Re: Looking for mast toggle replacements
I have looked on rigging only but I don’t think those toggles will work as the pin that goes through the mast and one end of the toggle is a 1/2” pin. The other end of the toggle that attaches to the triangle plate takes a 7/16” pin. I was able to find a replacement from Rigrite and am waiting for t...

Looking for mast toggle replacements
Hey guys I’m trying to find a replacement for these Shaeffer Marine toggles (I think that’s what they’re called). I can’t seem to find them online anywhere. They seem to be much longer and thinner than regular toggles used on turnbuckles.
Maybe there is a better alternative?

Hey guys, I’ve been replacing some bulkheads and structural components on my boat and last night after heavy rainfall I found about 6 worker termites crawling around. I’m really concerned they’re going to start attacking the new wood. Everything was coated in epoxy but many pieces have been screwed ...

Re: Thoughts on ocean crossing in an old boat
Thanks for the reply. I know we have spoken about adding stiffeners and am getting closer to glassing those in using pieces of urethane foam as a form. Just to confirm, it’s okay for the stringers or stiffeners to be partial and not large lengths of the hull longitudinally. I was slightly concerned ...

Thoughts on ocean crossing in an old boat
Hey folks, what are your thoughts on ocean crossing in an older fiberglass boat? Do you think the fiberglass on some of these 50 year old boats have deteriorated and lost a lot of its strength?
