Re: Winch sizing
Does the mounting situation lend its self to one size or another? I think changing the winch handle size may have more influence on how much load you can pull by your self. I am not sure if the sizes of winches are set by the pulling strength or the holding strength. There must be some more technica...

I am not sure if I saw it correctly, but it looked like your mizzen staysail was attached to the after end of the mizzen boom in a fixed way. You do want it attached there but it should have a sheet so you can change the angle of the sail relative to the mizzen sail. It looked like it was back windi...

Could be two problems. Weak batteries that inhibit starting, and some disturbed sediment in the fuel that came later. My volvo penta MD7B
would turn over but never start when my battery was under charged.

If I remember correctly, the steaming light is only used while the under motor power at night even if the sails are up. The foresail should not obscure it. Use only running lights when sailing at night. It should be fine to shine a light on your sail I wouldn't shine it at the bridge of the approach...

Re: Accessing the top of a stepped mast.
I do feel that working on the mast head by careening is really problematic due to the above mentioned fair lead and loading issues. I do think that in a tidal area or around high docks the mast head can be tilted towards the high object and the mast head could then be reached. That spinny crash look...

Re: Synthetic rigging?
Synthetic ropes incorporated into the running rigging are great. I would say that the only drawback to using synthetic rope as standing rigging is the degradation by UV rays. Racing boats at the high end are re-rigged all the time, whether for tweaking or for transport. Things can be inspected and c...

I imagine an open 1/2" hole on one side of the mast would not compromise the structural capacity of the spar. Place a hole halfway between the spreaders and the step and between the spreaders and the mast head. The cable tie method is great, the problem is how to get the tie around the wires. S...

The main reefing lines and the main halyard should be close to each other. It looks like your halyards are led aft at the moment, so for ease the reefing lines should be lead aft as well. That means two more rope clutches and another line organizer. With that big main you will need a winch to get go...

The forces on the tack are different than on the clew. The clew is at the bottom of the leech which generates a lot of sideways force. This sideways force against the resistance of the keel is part of what makes you go forward. Being as it is at the upwind corner of two spars, the tack is subject to...

c, my initial thoughts. Removing the mast is a straight forward rigging problem.
