Re: Deck Painting

James, if you can provide some clarity, it would be greatly appreciated. I reviewed the instructions from Alexseal, and on second thought, maybe I'm confused. I've already procured 1 gallon of the Alexseal 501, and the micro-can of roll additive. I did this because they were on sale, but didn't thin...

Re: Deck Painting

Everything is primed and I'm ready to apply the top coat. However, I'm getting nervous about applying the one part axleseal top coat. I'm thinking that the better way to go is the two part awlgrip 2000. I wanted to check with you first to see if you have any feedback? Is it better to go with the two...

Re: Bathroom Remodel...

A few updates: 1. I've plumbed the salt water intake for the toilet flush to the same thru hull as the drain for the sink. I've tested this and it works well. By doing so, I also have the advantage of being able to close the thru hull, and while running the sink, flush the toilet with fresh water. T...

Re: Ground Tackle for 6 Ton 35' Rasmus... Generally Speaking

My game plan has shifted and evolved. I plan on selling the CQR anchor on the bow. I plan on storing (the current primary anchor) Claw anchor midship. I plan on purchasing a Sarca Excell, 30kg/66lb, to serve as my primary anchor - adopting the oversized anchor approach. No shackle. 200' Chain, 200' ...

Re: Deck Painting

I'll likely take your advice and just roll the paint then. It doesn't need to be perfect, and if you're telling me that's the best way to do it if I'm only going to be painting one boat, I'll trust your judgement.

Toe Rail Varnish & Protection

I love the look of teak toe rails when they have a mirror finish similar to that of grand piano. I don’t know what it is - maybe it’s my desire to live up to the “bring on another thousand” slogan - but I decided that I wanted to clean up and protect the teak toe rail on Allie Rose. Thus far, I’ve s...

Bathroom Remodel...

Allie Rose here, a beautiful 1972 Hallberg Rassy Rasmus. The bathroom has been striped down and rebuilt with IPE wood. I've attached photos for anyone whose interested in seeing. Note - these photos are prior to the NFM windows that I installed, so it continues to look even better every day! I'll up...

Ground Tackle for 6 Ton 35' Rasmus... Generally Speaking

I’ve heard from wise sailors that a good ground tackle system is like a life insurance policy. Allie Rose is a 1972 Hallberg Rassy Raasmus, likely weighing in six tons, I’ve already preemptively done some work to my system. I’ve used a galvanizing zinc-based paint on the current anchor chain to mark...

Re: Deck Painting

Thank you James for your thorough instructions! Is there a spray gun that you use when spraying the finish areas? Do you find that the final product is significantly improved in comparison to rolling?

Deck Painting

Hello Everyone! I am the proud owner of a 1972 Hallberg Rassy Rasmus, and currently (like many of you presumedly are too) working on about 1,000 projects at once. One project that I can't seem to find the best solution for, is the products and methods to repaint the deck of the boat. My current plan...
