Re: Trailer Jack Stand Design -Thank You! James
Hi James! I’m writing to thank you for your help in getting my my trailer build dimensions correct. The trailer turned out beautifully, and the boat fit on it like a glove, I set up the tongue weight with a scale and she towed smoothly with a few up and down wiggles I think, due to the tongue length...

DIMs
Aft tubes at 30”
Amid and fwd tubes at 28”
And yes, my screw pads have 24 inch long threaded sections
What is the pinhole at 4 inches from the bottom used for? Is it just another Pin position at the extremis?
Cheers!!

Re: Trailer Jack Stand Design
Hi James, Happy Summer!! Well, the shed is completed, my mast is unstepped and I’ve nearly completed the trailer. I’ve begun setting up the drill press to drill the jackstands…lots of holes and lots of cutting oil in my future. I’m getting sweaty brains around where the first hole should b...

Pacer-New Fav. Marine Wiring Supplier - Manufacturer Located in Sarasota FL
Hello, I’m beginning to source the wiring I need to wire my new trailer that I’m building. I generally use Ancor tinned marine wire for my wiring needs on board and for the mast especially. When I began searching on Amazon and other places for a quality split wiring harness for my trailer, I ran int...

Re: Strap Recomendation for Hauling a 8600# Full Keel Sloop on a Trailer - 1965 Bristol 29
Hi James, Thanks!! and you are so right about occasional trailer use and cost of straps. I got these straps in and they’re very well-built. The ratchet assemblies are well-made and heavy duty so hopefully I won’t get frustrated by them. Sometimes the cheaper ones seem to be evil and frustrating. The...

Hello James, I’m busy cutting the exsiting jack stand tubes off the trailer!!! making a lot of progress. The 2.5” steel will arrive in about a week or two and will start welding them on then. YAY!! Yes, I have one more question. 🙃 The measurement for the 2.5” tube supports that are welded to the fra...

This looks like an older thread, but I’m going to go ahead and contribute. A couple tools popped in my mind when I start looking through this thread. I have two of the strainer basket wrenches, that are in the plumbing section of hardware stores. They are thinner than big crescent wrenchs or smooth ...

James Thanks! I have all the information needed now to be comfortable with the remainder of this project. Most of the welding is being done by a seasoned certified welder, that knows the ins and outs. Maybe I can learn how to weld decently before this is over? I’m trying my hand at the fenders and f...

Re: Strap Recomendation for Hauling a 8600# Full Keel Sloop on a Trailer - 1965 Bristol 29
Hello All, I called a local boat hauler and chatted about tie down straps. He uses a 14,000 GVWR trailer to haul full keel sailboats. 15,000 pound straps were recommended and he talked about strapping perpendicular to the trailer as his preference to prevent possible loosening of the straps. I’ve al...

James, thanks!! Yes, currently the 2” square tubing section that is welded to the trailer is lined with PVC pipe with the 1.25” threaded rod sitting on top on a washer and nut. I think the boat that’s on the trailer in the rudder picture at your shop, is a Pearson Triton based on the rudder straps i...

After looking closely at materials, it appears that the piece of square tubing with the collar on it is actually receiver tube. Receiver tube is perfect because it doesn’t have the welded seam and allows tube in tube to slide smoothly.

One place you might want to check is the website Bristol29.com that David Browne created. David has passed but his wife is diligently maintaining the website and keeping it up. There’s a wealth of information for Bristol Sailboat people. If you look at what he did with his boat Sally B. you’ll see w...
