Ok I got the new rudder post back from the shop. Very strong! I needed to fair the leading edge a bit to make everything fit together. I’m
Working on bushings for the gudgeons and hope to have it all together tomorrow.

Re: Masthead casting

Ok thanks. I figured nothing is going to quite line up. Well at least I got the old casting off the spar this afternoon after a lot of penetrating oil and heat. I’ll see what the riggers at Svendsens can do with it.

Re: Masthead casting

Thanks! It is definitely quite firmly attached. I’m considering replacing it with something similar to what was shown in the osprey refit video. How specific is that sort of masthead to the section? It looks somewhat generic as long as the sheaves lead fair especially the main halyard. Is that a sta...

Masthead casting

Folks I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for the masthead casting for a masthead-rigged triton? Attached is a picture of my existing casting, which is corroded and chipped on one side. I haven’t talked to rig-rite yet but they seem to be the go-to for thin HD a like this. I...

Re: Rudder

Ok rudder post is off. I had to drill out the three fastners but I might have enough meat left to get them off with vise grips. Electrolysis is bad enough that I will replace. My plan at this point is to go with stainless.

Re: Rudder

I haven’t sanded down to see how the parent material is doing. Thanks for the suggestion I’ll do that today

Re: Rudder

The gudgeons were fastened together with 1/4-20 bronze flat head machine screws. Three screws to the gudgeon-two through the deadwood and one holding the split collar together around the pintles. Removal was accomplished by first removing the top bushing then pulling the fasteners from the gudgeons....

Re: Rudder

Adding to this thread. I have my rudder off at this point. Pintles and gudgeons look good (see picture) but the rudder post less so. Lots of pink looks like significant electrolysis. Looking over material choices for the job. I’d prefer to do a bronze post with tabs wrapping around the rudder, but i...

Rudder removal

Folks Ok I have my Triton in the hard. The rudder is somewhat stiff, and hasn’t been off in years. The pintles and gudgeons look good. 15CBF768-310A-4244-A434-21FA8E48E980.jpeg My question is what is the best way to drop the rudder. My best thought is to unfasten the gudgeons from the deadwood, and ...
