Re: Wood shell turning blocks

I love the way those things look. However, after fighting the sun in the South on the rest of my exposed teak I cringe at the thought of keeping them looking that good. What type of finish did you use on those? I actually have access to about 8 wooden blocks that are for sale at the yard. I would lo...

Re: Rewiring

While the books mentioned above are some of the best I would also include :

"The 12 Volt Doctor's Practical Handbook for the Boat's Electrical System" by Edgar J, Beyn

It has good easy to read directions on building, testing, and trouble shooting circuits.

Re: The Christina Louise

Finally after several weeks of work, I was able to re-hang the rudder. A yard buddy and I were able to rig a double block system to the staging and shelter I built and hauled the thing in place. It was heavy but the pulley system worked well. It was good used of rigging and blocks that have been neg...

Re: The Christina Louise

After hours of sanding and applying epoxy i finally arrived at a suitable surface ready for paint. I used the same Awlgrip products to match the hull. The painting went without a hitch. After several coats of primer i painted the white boot stripe first and then the burgundy for the topsides. IMG_04...

The next step was to fill the seams and drain holes with thickened epoxy and fiberglass cloth. Re: The Christina Louise

Since I got the bowsprit back on, I figured it was time to tackle the rudder. The Christina Louise is a tiller steered boat with a transom hung rudder. I not sure if "rudder" is a proper name for something that is approximately 9 foot tall and weighs over three hundred pounds! Barn door mi...

Back again to post progress on the boat. This time I am finishing the bowsprit. It is made of wood and is in very good shape. I completely strip it of all hardware and paint. I then carefully examined it for any rot or defects. Not finding any defects I over drilled all of the holes where hardware a...

Re: "Sundance", an A-30

My boat also has a raised gunnel. The builder placed two slots on each side through the fiberglassed wall at deck level for drains. While it does a good job of removing water it has a tendency to stain the hull below each slot. I wonder if that is why your builder opted for the plumbing? Sometimes I...

The Durabak product is made to be applied with a roller, It is thick and messy; however, with the help of my wife we were able to coat everything twice in one day. I have been buying HDPE plastic, (it is essentially the same as Starboard) from the internet. Mostly off of Ebay, look in the the search the entire site and don't search by the Starboard name.
