Also peeked in your San Juan project, nice job. There is an active SJ21 fleet on our lake. Recently I was out on a friend's Catalina 25 in about 15 knots. Two old timers, maybe 75+, on a San Juan 21 were sailing circles around us.

Another poster elsewhere wrote a treatise about lightning traveling in straight lines. Hence, it seems to me that if you are running cables from the mast to say the keel bolts, the opportunity for side flashes/arcing below increase? Sure is a popular topic in boating forums now. Timely as we had warnings of possibly severe thunder/lightning storms last night. One poster said to ground to the battery, and throw it overboard. Your less extreme jumper cables to the stay seem more prudent.

Plastic tanks can be perfectly fine, but they should be stored in appropriate areas--lockers open to the atmosphere (common for portable tanks), or lockers that are otherwise designed to accommodate the permeability of the tank. I didn't mean to scare anyone away from good plastic tanks. The point ...

Tim, thanks for your input. I got my first plastic gas tank for 7.5 ob with the Santana I recently bought. Appreciate your comments, and just may revert to a newish metal tank I have. Bottomline, you've got me thinking more about safety in this area.

Anyone use Deks Olje?

I used to use it on my exterior brightwork. After sanding, a couple of coats of the matte finish would last until the next coatings a few months later. Seemed to keep the sanding time down. Granted, it's thin, and application a tad touchy. I know it's not a purist material, but I'm not a big fan of ...
