I know this is a little late, but back in the 60's the dealer could actually list the year for the title OR bill of sale for the year the vessel actually sold. There was no build date coded into the VIN.

Could you install a couple of elbows in the exhaust before the muffler to raise the exhaust to just below any overhead obstruction and then it drop to the muffler?

Well for one thing, it is the hardest bronze available from what I've read. Don't know the Brinnell rating but I would guess harder than mild steel.

Don't discount that the battery is simply drawing down on it's own. For your test to be conclusive, let the battery set with nothing hooked to it.

Actually this is a great question that has been bothering me as well, Barrier coats seem to create their own problems. My thinking is a couple coats of Epoxy primer, then bottom paint, but I am also looking for the answer.

WLL of 1900lbs (grade 30) seems terribly light for anchor chain, Is that what most are using? just curious. My plan is to use Grade 70 galvinized 5/16". Is this overkill for a 10,000 boat?

My thought is the silica should have been fine, mill fiber might have been better. I think of Epoxy as glue, so I might have used a couple of layers light fabric to hold it all together, kind of like rebar in concrete. Of the six Pearson I've worked on the biggest restriction of a water strainer has been bottom paint, some holes are completely blocked with paint and the rest are about 50 percent, the slotted ones are no better.

Richard, Remove the part and take it to any starter , alternator rebuilding shop. Throw it up on the counter and say, Hey I need one of these, it's for a old volvo I think, and see what happens. Don't bother with Auto zone, Jack and Harry's etc, they wouldn't have a clue!

Why not use the inexpensive balsa, it has already proved itself after 40 + years? The balsa didn't fail , the water intrusion thru improperly bedded deck hardware is what failed. I would sand it off with the orbital sander and 60 grit IF it is higher than the deck finish, if it is lower, I would scuff up very rough and backfill with epoxy and some filler to bring it to up to height. wear long pants and sleeve shirt and a dust filter. Good Luck

Fiberglass coatings in FL sells thinned Epoxy for sealing wood, I use it on every piece of wood that appears porous or weathered.
