Rudder grudgen attachment repair

Long story short, my rudder was wrenched in a lift sling incident at the top attachment point where the brass grudgen mounts to the wood of the rudder. the rudder post and heel are all fine. the rudder rotated to its stops and then kept going a few degrees more. I need to reset this but how is it at...

What is this for??

open.JPG I have this mounted on the back side of the hanging locker in the V-berth. It measures about 8"x20" and the center portion slides out about 12" like a slide rule. It has been suggested that it is a step to help exit through the forward hatch but it is too far aft of the hatc...

Re: Wireing a Frisco Flyer

Simple question. In my rewire job I copied what had been done previously using the logic that it worked well before I ripped it out. They had the main ground going from the engine block to the neg terminal on the starter battery and then to the Neg Bus. Should I reverse that and have the main ground...

Re: Answer #374

If anyone is in touch with Dave, details for the incident would be helpful if it's not too soon. I would be interested to know what system failures occurred that resulted in the sinking of a Triton.

Electrical panel location

I am building a new electrical panel enclosure at a new location. electrical 007.JPG The old one was located in the standard (poor) location at the companionway, above the engine and close to the batteries. I want to move it away from this area to a dry spot as I rewire. I am reusing the old ice box...

Re: Vertue

Thanks; knowing the name of it will sure help the research. Horse : an elevated rod, fixed at both ends and parallel with the deck of a sailing vessel to which the sheets can be led, lateral movement of the sheet being made possible by means of a traveller which can slide from side to side of a hors...

Re: Vertue

Does anyone have any experience with the main-sheet / traveler arrangement seen in these pictures. I have something very similar on the boat I am restoring now. I have removed it and have been looking at new possible arrangements for the main/traveler. The load forces applied to the bar 6-8 inches a...

Re: Round Chain Pipe

Thanks all. Excellent suggestions. I thought I had checked Sailboat Stuff but I guess I missed it. I like the Ideal chain locker pipe and cover, just looks like it belongs on a 1969 classic plastic.

Round Chain Pipe

Looking for a source for a bronze round large chain pipe. Something with an ID closer to 3". Everything I see is for rope only at 1" to 1-1/2" size. Just don't like the look of the oval that is available everywhere. It would seem that everybody that use to make them has discontinued t...

Re: Taipan 28 - New deck questions

Larry you are correct. In another deck fairing round this weekend before it got over 90, I looked down again at the toe rail and the thought of removing the lower material to get to the low point on the deck. I realized that the 12' sail track is mounted along the top of the toe rail every 6 inches ...

Re: Taipan 28 - New deck questions

On the scuppers it may be a bit of a compromise. I don't think I will take off the toe rail and refinish and re-bed. If I take one more thing off the boat and bring into the house I may be told to go live on the boat in the back yard for a while. However, Dave's idea of fairing up to the scupper (wi...

Taipan 28 - New deck questions

I have a 1969 Taipan 28 from Hong Kong that I have just finished recoring all the decks. I do not plan on replacing with teak decking and re-introducing 2,000 more little holes for water to penetrate my new balsa core decks so I have some detail/finish questions. What is the proper method to seal th...
