actually, it is solid surface! there is a little bit of butyl, but just at the right side of the image which was toward the front of a strip of half round. the rest of the bumpy crud is actually rock hard resin and glass. thanks. already thought of that. but unfortunately to try and get it to be similar to what is already there that setup won't quite work. the shank on a bolt that fits through the tangs is too small. while a bolt with a shank big enough to accommodate the press fit pin will not fit through the tangs....

thanks for the reply. I am looking to change because the boom has pulled the track off of the mast several times. larger and larger screws are not doing the trick, and now the track is held on to the mast with hose clamps, which isn't the prettiest thing around, and won't last as the track itself is...

finally got back to working on the messed up portlight. used a punch to get out the peened-in pin that holds the dog. slightly bent the hinge posts, but i kind of knew that would happen with the soft bronze. i don't think it will be a problem. the dog's diameter is 0.23" to the outside of the t...

I think those wing nuts and portlights were made by Perko or Wilcox Crittenden. My 1969 Tartan had Perko aluminum frames with (I think) are chrome on bronze wing nuts and studs and are the same as Perko bronze units. as for the jib tracks, why not just mount them directly on the rail? mine are similar looking tracks that are straight when unmounted, but then with the help of an assistant mount directly onto the rail. curved and all.
gets them off the deck and makes one less thing to jam your toes on.

it's a Graco full flow elbow, the space above the through wasn't conducive to getting the hose to make a nice turn.

just a final follow up.

i installed a fancy groco. ($150+ w/ all hardware. yikes!)
in my haste i used a plywood pad with several coats of epoxy. i would have rather used a figberglass pad. will probably swap out in off season when i redo ALL the other through-hulls.

thanks Rachel, Barry, and Dave. will try the tape and cut method, sounds good. will also employ soapy water. get some good soapy water on the stern, and it gives you a little wiggle room when putting the vinyl down, and once squeegeed out, does not effect adhesion at all. thanks also for the 54"...

the external strainer seems to be integral to the threads i can see on the inside. i can undo the flange nut a bit and the whole thing gets loose. so i think i am going to first try tightening the flange nut back up, and see if i can get the 'BODY' to unscrew off the treads. if i can't, hello sawzal...
