Re: Spinnaker Pole
Much of the spinnaker measurements rely on the "J" measurement: from the front of the mast to the pointy-end of the boat or the forestay chainplate. For cruising it doesn't matter so much, but I suspect the reason the Chesapeake Bay Triton Fleet limits the pole to 10 feet is because that i...

Re: Reefing System - Convert Roller Boom to Slab Reefing?
If you get a hold of an older copy of Eric Hiscock's "Cruising Under Sail," he does extol the virtues of the roller reefing main-- BUT -- he does note that it is far more effective if you install battens on the end of the boom to take up the extra sail material as you roll it in. For you g...

Hatteras is littered with shoals and wrecks for quite a ways out. How far out are you willing to go? This time of year when its cold and blowing stink, most folks take the ICW to Beaufort, NC just below Hatteras and continue on if they want to do the outside. There is a reason the ICW was made and H...

I would agree that trying to dry out areas of wet balsa core will be difficult at best if done just through the holes. Even trying to dry out the balsa by removing a layer of skin is problematic and its just easier to replace. The only exception to this is if you find any wet areas of plywood core i...

I have had to make decorative wire chase often. You aren't fooling anyone with it, they all know you are hiding wire, but it still looks good anyway. What are you proposing to use the stringers for?
Stringers are structural so they shouldn't be flexible. But using PVC to support the fiberglass you would use to make stringers is perfectly acceptable since it is the fiberglass that gives the strength to the stringer and not the underlying material.
