Re: Used Headsails
Thanks for the link, it will be helpful the next time I go sail shopping. The measurements shown are about what I was told. Friday, I received the used Etchells jib that I ordered from Bacon Sails. It came rolled up in a bag and is as stiff as a board. I don't think it could be flaked very easily an...

Re: Used Headsails
Thanks for the additional thoughts on the Etchells' jib. I decided to go ahead and order one from Bacon Sails in Annapolis, MD. They were very helpful, explaining the difference between snap tabs and regular hanks and there formula for sail condition. The one I ordered is made of a fairly light 5 oz...

Re: Used Headsails
Thanks Dave & Bly, I checked the websites out and it looks like the Etchell's jib will fit my boat, so I'm going to give one a try. It looks like you can get a good condition sail for about $200-$250. I found out the Electra was introduced before the Ensign, it has the same hull, but uses a mast...

Used Headsails
Hi, I'm looking for some used sail buying advice. The last time I bought a sail (that didn't come with a boat) it was a long time ago and the sail was new and made for the boat . This time I'm looking to replace the jib on a 23' Pearson Electra. The luff on the jib that came with the boat is much sh...

Re: Exterior Mahogany on Pearson Electra
It's taken longer than I thought, but we launched "Englishmuffin 2" last month. Thank you all for your advice and encouragement. Last winter I stripped all the wood-work off and refinished with Cetol (a compromise versus varnish). But the mahogany looks so much better and after I re-bedded...

Re: Pros & Cons of Installing a Deck Plate
Thanks for all the advice. I think I'm going to put in a hatch. I picked up a dimension sheet from my local marine hardware store and they're going to order one for me as soon as I've decided on size. As it turns out, I was inspecting the outboard bracket and the mounting bolts are loose. So unless ...

Re: Pros & Cons of Installing a Deck Plate
Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll go ahead and start cutting tomorrow. I've bought a 6" round deck plate, but the idea of a larger hatch for storage is really interesting. There's not much room below in the Electra and it would be really handy to have some room for fenders and dock lines back...

Pros & Cons of Installing a Deck Plate
I'm getting my 1963 Pearson Electra ready to launch for the first time. Over the winter, I stripped and refinished all of the mahogany and just finished re-bedding it all. I'm hoping this will help most of my deck leaks and save the wood work. Now I'm working on putting in a simple electrical system...

Re: Exterior Mahogany on Pearson Electra
Dear Tim and Rachael, Thanks for the quick reply, welcome and helpful advice. The trim on my boat looked like mahogany, but it's so weathered I wasn't sure. I think I'll continue with making the replacement parts out the mahogany boards that I have already. I bought them last year for some cabinet w...

Exterior Mahogany on Pearson Electra
Hi, I'm the proud new owner of a 1963 Pearson Electra Hull, # 254 (Englishmuffin2). I'm hoping to get her in the water for this season, so I've been building a list of things that need to be completed for this season or can be put off until the future. This is my first time writing to the forum, so ...
