Well thanks for the input - well received... I ended up using the same product my neighbour was using for a blister peel/restore job - the interlux 2000e barrier coat. What I liked was the ability to use it to seal and with additives use to fair the holes. I ended up with a fairly smooth bottom and ...

I presumed the system had a fault and bought my neighbours spare (he says it works) slightly newer Std Horizon with its own transducer. neither appear to work ! I have put my multi-meter on both transducers and neither show continuity. Qu...

West system Says ... But what about the primer ?

Wonder what the pundits will say ? I am busy with the prep of my osmotic blisters and am going to use West System to repair the "patches" (some are large). If I read up on all West Systems Reccomendations - I dont need a primer before using my standard Ablative Antifoul paint. BUT The loca...

Replacing the S/S standing rigging with Galvanised ?

Was wondering if the knowledgeable forum-ites here would shoot my idea down with a waterspout ? After reading Moitessiers books about self sufficiency, I am thinking of replacing my 35' ketch's original '74 S/S rigging & swaged fittings with a combination of galvanised wire , thimbles and double...

Vey interesting - given that the rust isnt a problem, every other boater will envy you and if its hung in full sight, its likely to aquire a new home very quickly. the cheapest I have seen so far is $99 + $8 shipping - so I think I will be getting a standard ACE hardware version and painting it... k...

I sailed a modified 42' ketch with the mizzen removed, boom extended by 15" and it sailed downwind like a dog - The huge auto-pilot worked so hard you hard to recharge the batteries too often. So would not consider such a modified boat again.
