Re: blocks on genny track

Tom, the previous owner of my sailmaster had replaced the jib / genny blocks with snatch blocks. In fact almost every block on the boat has been replaced. None of it matches and consist of all brands. The red laminated tackle I believe was original on some Sailmaster / Seafarer 22's as many others. ...

Re: Sailmaster 22 Centerboard pin

Ok I'm gonna try and post a photo or three to show Sailmaster 22 center board and pin location for my boat. Centerboard that was made from 1/2" steel plate $65.00 or so, machined to 7/16" thickness $125.00. Then I welded on two bosses 1/8" thick, (one on each side in way of the pin lo...

Re: Sailmaster 22 rudder repair

Does anyone know just how the rudders on the Dutch built Sailmasters were constructed? Yes, read the next quote. As to your rudder...originally, the shaft is bronze with some tabs coming off of it. The rudder blade consisted of two pieces that were molded of fiber glass on port / starboard molds, t...

Re: Sailmaster 22 Centerboard pin

The cb pin through the iron ballast keel is the original layout on the plans. I've heard of one other boat having this pin location and I believe it is a drive out / in kind of thing. The cb has the pin hole about half way down from the top at the forward end and from there down the cb forward end i...

Re: Sailmaster 22 rudder repair

Your description of the rudder sounds like the way DeVries Lentsch built the Meridian rudder. I think it was and still is common practice to mold as many parts as possible. Today the fillers are better though. I believe it's good to sand around the seam and look for wet spots and if none are found ...

Re: Sailmaster 22 rudder repair

Noddy and Tom, Congrats to both of you on your acquisitions. Tom, De Noord built very good boats. He produced a drawing for S&S for a change to the center board. I don't know if the daysailer incorporates these changes, but I think it's a safe bet that they do. IIRC the pennant tube exits in the...

Re: The search goes on.......

Tom, A previous owner had fiber glassed the centerboard which had already rusted. It continued to rust inside and the glass work and spread out wedging itself. The board was in a half way down position and could not be moved up with the pennant. I had to run aground to shove it up in order to get it...

Re: The search goes on.......

Tom, So far I have found there to be two styles of centerboards. They differ in hinge pin location and shape. On one the pin location is at the top forward end. The other one is also forward but about half way down from the top. Oops, Theres a third thats aluminum and the pin I think is half way dow...

I found this interesting for "simple" comparisons.

Re: Seamaster Kestrel 22 - believed to be a 1966 or '67

OK, Home now and after looking at the photos some more, I've made the following observations. Fiberglass winch mounts = later (US) production. Toe rails either replaced, or a production change. Even the late boats I've seen still had the bow chocks recessed and moulded into the toe rail. (Their posi...

Re: Seamaster Kestrel 22 - believed to be a 1966 or '67

Only have a minute, (at lunch). The boat pictured above is a Seafarer Kestrel, and looks like a U.S. built. I don't have time to look at the plans now but I do remember a version with the head at the V-berth, and the slot in the stern for the tilt up motor. Aluminum center boards were used about thi...

I've never seen an original hatch that goes on the front of the engine compartment. The plans don't show it either. The bow chocks look like the aluminum ones I bought for my boat as I couldn't find the bronze originals. My boats toe rails were redone by a previous owner and the bronze bow chocks an...

I think the other one looked like it was in better shape from the photos, plus an older version with bronze hardware.

Sailmaster 22

I'm curious as to the hull number. This boat started out to be a Seafarer Kestrel, notice the forward end of the cove stripe is the Seafarer emblem. I call them Seamasters. The hulls are left over from Seafarer production and were used to make the early Sailmasters. I have one too. 1962, #78 dee

Bummer about the crack! I'd ask some one who is a pro at this kind of repair. Maybe an extra piece can be welded onto the outside of the cracked side to sister it up to handle the loads. Drill out the rivets, remove the head gear, and take it around to some aluminum fabricators to see if they can re...

Cheap, plus they come with many tips from large to small openings. The larger ones may be good for material placement for fillets prior to pulling them with pvc pipe. But the best is filling holes from the bottom up. I don't have a use for the star shaped one yet, but I didn't throw it away, just in...

A few months ago I removed the rotted toe rails along with lots of other hardware on my boat and found some small areas of water infiltration in the balsa core where the stantions were mounted. It turns out that the the toe rails I removed were the second set to be put on the boat and the first set ...
