On the surface maybe. Hold a hammer by the business end and push the handle into the core as hard as you can.....bet you'll get a puddle, or in your case a drip. I used the new mask for the first time today, thank you for the recommendation. Thanks for the quick replies!

I heard from a Cal guy that at least some boats have a connection just above the deck in the mast. Time will tell I guess.

I'll try to dig up the stanchion setup, that sounds pretty slick.

If it were me, I would take readings from the inside, underneath the deck. Removing some of the teak is surely an option, that should give you an indication of how well it was installed.

Looking back I wonder how close it was to failing. I've never been out in more than 15-18, but a few times the boat seemed to handled a little odd. I thought it was my bad sail trim.

Yesteice rday I went to Lowes's and found a nice 2 3/8" Kobalt scraper with a carbide tip. What I found out though, which is par for the course, Lowes's doesn't carry replacement blades for the tool...Why sell it then!!!
They just sell more tools, no need to bother with replacement parts.
