Re: Boat Name Vynal letters
Try going to a sign shop that does vinyl lettering. Chances are they can make up your boat name any way you want it. They'll probably put it on a paper backing so you just have to put it where you want it. Then peel and stick. Get prices from a couple of places. The prices can vary a LOT. Good luck.

The centerboard was steel covered with fiberglass. Ask about that because when I read that information, I worried about the centerboard being swollen from internal rust. But I never found anything online about centerboard problems (other than pennants). So maybe its not a big deal but do ask about ...

I would like to second Rachel's comments and give a special thanks to Tim. Thank you Tim for your work in maintaining the forum over the years. Re: Bluenose II
I was aboard the L.A. Dunton at Mystic back in the 70's. These schooners are remarkable. Being accustomed to our recreational sailboats, it's easy to lose a sense of the scale of these large fishing schooners and how difficult, physically, it must have been to sail them, especially on the Banks in b...

Re: Bluenose II
The question of what constitutes a "rebuild" vs a "restoration" vs a "replica" has been argued for ever. The magazines, WoodenBoat and Classic Boat, have had and continue to have many articles regarding this debate and indeed feature many of the finished products of the...

Re: Bluenose II
I heard about this rebuild some time ago and I think there was something about it in WoodenBoat also. There hasn't been too much about it in the media. I did hear that there was some controversy about the nature of the rebuild i.e. about how much of the original was to be saved and also the cost. Th...

Re: tarp rub
I've seen custom covers which are made of a plasticized material similar to a silver tarp. These covers fit over the top of the boat covering the cabin, cockpit and all the decks BUT they only extend down to just below the rub rail. All of the freeboard is left uncovered except for the top 2 inches ...

Re: tarp rub
It's a perennial problem for me as well. My boat's hull is original white gelcoat, not painted. At first my tarp material was too light and not tied down hard enough. I had lots of abrasion and ground-in dirt to deal with in the spring. I now use heavy silver tarps which I strap down hard using rubb...

These associations are excellent sources of information about your boat including owners' forums and advice on everything from racing tips to restoration. In my time sailing in wes...

Re: Morey's Red Grease on Lewmar Winches?
I tried Harkens winch grease in my Lewmar 7 cockpit winches and Lewmar 6 cabin top winches. I didn't like it. I used it sparingly but found it too stiff and sticky. It slowed down my winches too much. This year I cleaned them out and lubricated them with light oil. They operate much better. As our s...

Magic Erasers are great around the boat. I've found them especially good for removing black mold from gelcoat. Just be careful. I've used them on my hull to remove scuff marks etc. but have noted that the area in which I used them looks more white than the surrounding area. I don't know if this is b...

Jim,
The dog looks very comfortable indeed!
The Shark is definitely not roomy inside. After a race, the cabin of my boat looks like an explosion just happened in a chandlery with sails, sheets, life jackets, etc. everywhere!

Erik - Dolphins are great little boats, I've always liked them. It's amazing how much space has been packed into a 24' boat. I noticed the comparison to a C&C Shark in the other thread, while they are both 24 footers, there is no comparison in terms of space. Sharks are fast little boats, I sai...

It looks fast . I bet they get up and scoot with a kite up! -EKE The Shark is reasonably fast in most weather as the racing weight is only 2300 lb. and they have a 20 foot waterline. They are a bit under canvassed for light air, not our favourite conditions, but this alleviates the need to reef in ...

The Dolphin 24 is one sweet boat. It's nice to see that you're looking after her so well. I also own a 24 foot boat. It's a Shark 24. She's more of a weekender-racer with not much in the way of creature comforts i.e. head, galley etc. Her forte is one design racing and that's how I use her for the m...

Re: Leeward Shroud Slack Question
I wouldn't worry too much about the leeward shrouds being slack while sailing unless the condition is extreme. Perhaps you could contact some other Sea Sprite owners and find out how tight they set their rigging. Then buy or borrow a tension gauge, such as a Loos Tension Gauge, sized for your riggin...

In order to keep them from settling you need some sort of coating in the drain that they don't like.
