Thanks for the suggestion Tim.

I am considering suspending some old carpet pieces, ie broadloom, in the areas where the tarp meets the hull with the pile-side against the hull. This should be soft enough for the hull but still let some air circulate.

Thoughts?

I'd be interested in hearing some suggestions in this regard too. Each spring I have scuff marks and ground in dirt on the hull, in areas where the tarp touches. Last winter I used heavier silver tarps and the scuffs were not so bad but still a problem. I store in a commercial yard and do not have t...

Bottom cleaning whilst in the water

My solution is similar to Peter's. When I had my first Shark, back in the 70's, I couldn't find a suitable implement with which to clean my waterline while at the dock. I bought a wooden children's hockey stick and drilled a hole near the tip. Then I made 2 large flat L brackets from some heavy alum...

Our season in western Lake Ontario is basically from mid-May till early October. During that period, I try to race my boat at least one evening a week, sometimes twice a week. I daysail her about once a week sometimes with friends but most often single-handed.

Bill,

I believe Folkboats still use under-deck winches. Some Folkboat websites might yield some information about suppliers and parts etc. I imagine the Folkboat sails are a bit smaller than the Shields' but the winch specs might be similar enough.
