Thanks for the suggestion Tim.
I am considering suspending some old carpet pieces, ie broadloom, in the areas where the tarp meets the hull with the pile-side against the hull. This should be soft enough for the hull but still let some air circulate.

I'd be interested in hearing some suggestions in this regard too. Each spring I have scuff marks and ground in dirt on the hull, in areas where the tarp touches. Last winter I used heavier silver tarps and the scuffs were not so bad but still a problem. I store in a commercial yard and do not have t...

I'll second Peter's recommendation for FSR. The white gel coat on my boat was badly stained when I got the boat and FSR removed the stains. I've never used it on any thing but gel coat but I think I've read that oxalic acid can also be used for removing black stains from teak. Anyone here had experi...

Bottom cleaning whilst in the water
My solution is similar to Peter's. When I had my first Shark, back in the 70's, I couldn't find a suitable implement with which to clean my waterline while at the dock. I bought a wooden children's hockey stick and drilled a hole near the tip. Then I made 2 large flat L brackets from some heavy alum...

Shoalcove, I agree with your comments regarding Benjamin Moore Melamine paint. It levels beautifully and looks like a spray finish if applied carefully. I used a fine foam roller and brush with this paint to refinish a chest of drawers and a small bedroom table. In both cases the results were excell...

Here's a photo from the Canadian Shark Association website. The picture was taken at the Bay of Quinte which is on the north shore of Lake Ontario.
Ah ... winter sailing in Ontario.
Not quite as nice as Louisiana.

Our season in western Lake Ontario is basically from mid-May till early October. During that period, I try to race my boat at least one evening a week, sometimes twice a week. I daysail her about once a week sometimes with friends but most often single-handed.

Color Coded Running Rigging - Is there a standard of sorts
Bill, I agree with Tim's comment and I also use coloured lines on my boat. Colour coding for the spinnaker control lines is VERY useful while racing and with new crew members. I use solid red and green lines for the sheets, a black line for the halyard and a solid blue line for the spinnaker pole to...

Mike,
It's an HR25 for sure! The HR28 has a raised cabintop like the Triton. All I can say is that guy must like pulling strings - look at all those sails on a 25 foot boat!
My Shark24 is also a Hinterhoeller design. I wonder ...

A Hinterhoeller 25 ketch?? I've never seen an HR25 rigged as a ketch. Could it have been a Hinterhoeller 28? Any pictures?
Congrats on your second place finish.

Bill,
I believe Folkboats still use under-deck winches. Some Folkboat websites might yield some information about suppliers and parts etc. I imagine the Folkboat sails are a bit smaller than the Shields' but the winch specs might be similar enough.

Jason, Our foredeck got left and right confused for a little bit. Suggestion: Colour-coded lines. No kidding.
